There are 1.77 million homeless people in India, or 0.15% of the country’s total population, according to the 2011 census consisting of single men, women, mothers, children, the elderly, and the disabled.
As per last census, Karnataka has 75,635 homeless & Bengaluru has around 5129 (estimated).
Presently the city corporation (BBMP) has allocated only 9 shelters as against the estimated 78 shelters across the different wards. The COVID situation makes this even more challenging.
